If somebody told me that after a two year break from writing I would be back to blog about coding I would not believe it! But here I am, learning programming and hoping that through this space I can get my thoughts in order and share tips and tricks about what has helped me on this adventure.
My name is Ivona. I’m 34 years old and I’m based in the beautiful city of Stockholm, Sweden. I started learning programming by myself around a year ago, and I did that for a while as a passion project aside from working full-time. With that knowledge I was able to pass the tests and get a spot at Lexicon’s frontend course. It’s a bootcamp style course meant for people with previous IT experience that want to update their competences. I haven’t previously worked in the IT industry, but with my determination and what I’ve learned by myself I was able to get a spot (there were over 100 people interested and only 15 spots). I did language tests in English and Swedish and a programming test in Javascript and after that an interview. And a little vistory dance when I found out I was in! 🙂
As I studied design and communication before it made sense for me to focus on front-end. I am already over half way in, and while the course has been challenging at times, it was also incredibly rewarding to learn new things and to see my skills expand. The course is around five months long and afterwards I want to do a 3 months internship
So in the coding section of my blog (The Smoke Detector was founded ten years ago with my best friend as a platforn for cool design, people and places) I will share some of the things that I’ve learned and some of the tips I’ve collected along the way. Writing things down sistematically is selfishly meant for me to work through the things I’m learning but if anyone else ends up here (besides you mom, hi! :)) then that’s a great bonus. If you stummbled upon here and want to reach out please do that through the contact page.
